Home MTC information for families

We are very excited for your missionary to begin their service in just a few weeks. All new missionaries will participate in an Online Missionary Training experience to prepare them for their upcoming missions. We know that your family and countless others will be greatly blessed as you support your missionary.

We hope that as a family you can prepare together for this experience. Your missionary will need encouragement and support throughout their training. It is anticipated that your missionary should follow the general missionary standards, including the approved schedule and the dress and grooming standards found in Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ. Please help your missionary understand the importance of this preparation period while they’re at home and begin living the missionary standards to the best of their ability. 

Please engage in conversations with your missionary throughout their training. During training, your missionary can share with you things they are learning and activities they are participating in. Your missionary and family have been prepared for this unique MTC experience! Our hope is that missionaries will seek to minimize distractions and begin consecrating their time and efforts towards their sacred calling. 

In the coming days, your missionary will receive an email from their teachers. This email will include general information about the training, the anticipated length of that training, their daily schedule, who the other members of their training group will be, and a few tasks that they might need to do before they get started. Your missionary will have a remote companion assigned to them. They are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities and communication with this companion outside of scheduled training activities. While your missionary is home, we invite your family to plan ways they can have a physical companion as often as your family is able to. This companion can support your missionary in maintaining the daily schedule and physical safety and accountability. Please help your missionary be aware of the email from their teacher as they will need to reply back to their teachers. 

Ideas you can do as a family before training begins: 

1. Read the Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ manual together. Discover how you can learn and grow together as a family. This can be found online at churchofjesuschrist.org 

2. Plan together what things you can do to create an environment where a full-time missionary can have the Spirit to direct and guide them daily.
